KANTO

Kanto, at least game wise, is probably the generation I have the least experience with. The original Red & Blue games came out well before I had hatched, and FireRed & LeafGreen were released well before I was gamer-aged. Though I had been thoroughly exposed to the original 151 through the anime, manga series, and a large stack of pokemon cards, I had yet to play a mainline (so not Let's Go) generation one game till recently.

Since modding my 3DS, I've been exploring games that have been locked behind my lack of a Gameboy. One of the first games I wanted to experience was FireRed, mostly due to it being (a remake of) the one that started it all.

My recently completed playthrough was enjoyable however, going back to old games always makes me thankful for generation 4/5 quality of life additions to the series (the special physical split lol). The biggest bummer for me when playing through pre gen 4 games is that I miss out on a lot of key game features, such as version exclusives and event only pokemon. While this does not totally impede my playthrough, it does make it near impossible to complete the dex and play with trade evo only pokemon :(.
